My original plan for this podcast site was a place where I could come to be as crazy as I wanted cos noone would ever listen to it. Which allowed me to develop an ability to sound a little bit punchdrunkier than I am. Today for instance I am perfectly sober.

This is one take no rehearsal and I’ve never listened to it, so we are both taking a chance, almost live, hahaha,

This is the first time anyone else has ever recorded one of my poems so it is very special to me. And also it is magically wonderfully incredibly gorgeously beautiful.

I use free Audacity software for recording. It’s capable of much better than I do, fully optioned it is and ready to rock, I’m just not very good at it yet. Wordpress is a bit difficult about posting mp3’s without a paid upgrade so I use Podbean here which has never given me any trouble, free and easy and unobtrusive,

this recording has a little fiddle with digital effects including a slow fade in and out so don’t feel you need to turn the volume up straightaway,

I left this sound real rough with the lowfi hiss because i want there to be just one sound left ringing in the listeners ear, not the last word, but a sound which kind of echoes through the final phrase and resonates in the ear’s memory,and it sounds like the cicadas and crickets too, insects sing,

i wonder if one day some lovely lady with a voice for reading to children without patronising them might come along and say that man’s poetry would be great, not the rude ones of course like this one which would require a different voice, ahh the internet, where dreams come true…

As usual, I am finding this far more difficult than i thought it would be. The words on a page have so much room to be alive in the rhythm of your voice, there is so much room for you to hear so many subtleties, I feel like I am pinning butterflies to boards with a sledgehammer, the words…
